So, last week I started the first tutorial of one of my favorite backgrounds. So, here is the second a step-by-step look at embossing paste backgrounds.
Again, I do have to warn you that since my video making area is not quite set up just yet, there are A LOT of pictures!
To get started I cut the card base to 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″.
For this card I used white embossing paste, a 6×6 stencil and gelatos.
First, I used some washi tape to secure my card to my craft mat.
I then secured the stencil with more washi tape.
I only wanted to put embossing paste on a specific part of the card, so I placed some washi tape on the stencil to help cordon the paste. I didn’t have to be so particular, as I am placing patterned paper on the other part of the card, but I didn’t want to have that extra bulk there.
I wanted more of a plummy color so I chose a pink and a purple gelato to mix.
I applied to gelatos directly to the craft mat. I am kind of anal about not getting one color on the other, so I applied them without one going over the other. I was sure to get some chunks on the mat as well. If you do not over mix, this will help give you a speckled look.
Mix the gelatos and embossing paste well, to achieve your desired color.
At this point, I decided I wanted a little bit of a cooler color, so I decided to add in some blue.
Next, I spread the mixed embossing paste over the specified area, once again, not being real careful to fill in the holes completely.
If you look closely, you can see what I meant about a speckled effect. There are little streaks of blue in there. I had wanted there to be streaks of the purple also, but I must have over mixed.
Carefully remove the stencil, and be sure to wash it immediately in order to get the paste off.
Here is the finished product:
And here is a close-up. After the paste dried completely, some of those purple and pink streaks showed up!
Well, that is it for today’s card. I hope to see you back on tomorrow for the final card in this series!!
